Mackerel Surfboards was born from a love of alternative surfcraft.. Marty Brooks, the shaper for Mackerel Surfboards, has been skateboarding from a young age and so when he started shaping boards, he was looking for ways that he could translate his skateboarding style into surfing. He started shaping displacement hulls, boards which behaved more like skateboards and snowboards, and thus, the love for alternative crafts were born.
Marty specialises in displacement hulls and retro crafts, giving a much looser feeling board, that can be turned with a more forward stance, faster in the trim and big open turning circles … which is the way he likes to surf!
Mackerel Surfboards have recently been working on more vintage based designs, which can be seen in the weaver fish Twinzer model below.
