Vellamo Surf

Speciality: Hollow wooden surfboards

Finland might not be the first place you think of when you think of great waves and smooth surfing but in Finnish mythology Vellamo holds an important role as the goddess of waters, seas, fishing, and most importantly the waves. She was not only turned to for good luck when fishing but also for favourable winds and magical waves. Vellamo got her name from the Finnish word ‘velloa’, which means the movement of water and waves. Sometimes, in the very early hours amongst the morning mist, one might see her as she comes up to the surface wearing a dress made of sea foam.

We at Vellamo Surf saw it more than appropriate to dedicate our wooden surfboards to her name. May she be favourable to the surf to be experienced with our hollow wooden surfboards.

Based in Bristol, Vellamo Surf shapes hollow wooden surfboards to last a lifetime. Our aim is not only to create new memories whilst surfing and shaping but to support a more sustainable way of surfing. Though wooden boards are heavier and usually more expensive than foam based boards, they're also stronger, more environmentally friendly and faster in the waters.

We want to give our customers something beautiful and hand crafted which they can treasure for a lifetime. Most of all, we want to expand people’s knowledge of sustainable surfing. Wooden boards remained the most popular choice until about the 1960s, and we think it’s time for a comeback. Join us for a wooden surfboard revolution!
